In a murine model of chronic kidney disease, characterized by increased muscle protein degradation mediated by E3 ligases, Atrogin-1/MAFbx, and MuRF-1, ectopic expression of miR-486 resulted in impaired skeletal muscle atrophy by the blockage of FoxO1 translation (135) (Figure 1).
