RIGI and infection: The influenza virus sensor RIG-I plays a key role in the innate immune response of domestic mallards (A. p. domesticus) by clearing LPAIV infection (Barber et al., 2010), albeit RIG-I expression, as well as the resistance gene Mx and several other innate immune genes are transient and only weakly upregulated in response to LPAIV exposure in domestic mallards (Vanderven et al., 2012; Helin et al., 2018; Fleming-Canepa et al., 2019).
