In contrast to the inhibition of mTOR by AMPK during myocardial ischemia, mTOR is activated during myocardial reperfusion through the inhibition of the glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β)/tuberous sclerosis complex 2 (TCS2) pathway, resulting in decreased autophagy (Zhai et al., 2011; Sciarretta et al., 2014). This evidence concerns the gene MTOR and myocardial ischemia.
