Miller et al. (2001) found that repeat episodes of hypoglycaemia experienced by those attending a local clinic as outpatients were comparable to those of patients treated by EMS. A further study later showed that there was little difference between the re-contact rates of those insulin treated patients that were transported to an ED or those that remained at home following EMS treatment (Cain et al., 2003).
