Fas is a death receptor in the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily that binds to FasL to induce apoptosis (Cha et al., 2010), and DcR3 is another tumor necrosis factor receptor that competitively binds to FasL to protect IPF fibroblasts from FasL-induced apoptosis (Im et al., 2016). The gene discussed is FAS; the disease is idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
