Occludin protein expression was both markedly up-regulated in the LTF and CaD groups compared with that in the DM group (LTF: 0.59 ± 0.14 vs. 0.28 ± 0.03, p < 0.05; CaD: 0.49 ± 0.18 vs. 0.28 ± 0.03, p < 0.05, respectively). The gene discussed is OCLN; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
