The expression of EAAT2 in PD animal models has been studied, and the down-regulation of EAAT2 has been found in both 6-hydroxydopamine and acute 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3, 6-tetrahydropyridine models in the mouse striatum (Holmer et al., 2005; Chung et al., 2010). This evidence concerns the gene SLC1A2 and Parkinson disease.
