Serum 25-OH vitamin D levels were significantly lower in cases compared to controls with 33% of cases suffering from severe vitamin D deficiency (defined as 25-OH vitamin D levels < 25 nmol/l), while 100% of the cases had secondary hyperparathyroidism, defined as PTH levels > 7 pmol/L according to the reference values given by the hospital’s central laboratory. This evidence concerns the gene PTH and vitamin D deficiency.
