BA reduces the contents of interleukin (IL)-β, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the kidney and synovial cells of diabetic rats with rheumatoid arthritis, enhances the levels of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) and inhibits the phosphorylation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) p65 and inhibitor of NF-κB (IκB), thereby exerting anti-inflammation and antioxidant properties through activation of the nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway and inhibition of the NF-κB signaling pathway [15,16].
