SNAP25 and Alzheimer disease: SNAP25 has also been shown to negatively interact with presynaptic VGCCs to control presynaptic Ca2+ and affect neurotransmitter release [66,67], and the demonstrated therapeutic efficacy of putative AD medications such as levetiracetam, which targets presynaptic VGCCs [68,69], suggests that presynaptic Ca2+ channels could serve as a therapeutic target for AD.
