Variants in a number of pigmentation-related genes, including SLC45A2, IRF4, TYR, ASIP, OCA2, HERC2, and MC1R, have been associated with the risk of cSCC in populations of European ancestry13–19, supporting the presumed biological importance of lighter pigmentation in susceptibility to cSCC. This evidence concerns the gene ASIP and skin squamous cell carcinoma.
