While MB-ATN pathology has been traditionally linked to Korsakoff syndrome, there is increasing evidence for MB-ATN pathology across a wide range of neurological disorders that are associated with memory impairments, e.g. neonatal hypoxia (Molavi et al., 2019) and other conditions associated with low oxygen levels (Cabrera-Mino et al., 2020), Down syndrome (Perry et al., 2019) and colloid cysts (Denby et al., 2009; Vann et al., 2009b). This evidence concerns the gene TYR and Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome.
