ATP7A and cancer: Cancer cells usually adapt multiple strategies to counteract the treatment of an anticancer drug in order to survive and eventually acquire resistance to the drugs.[1] Using a library containing siRNAs for 56 genes to enhance cisplatin sensitivity of MDA‐MB‐231 cells, we have previously identified ATP7A as a top synthetic lethal gene that sequesters cisplatin and pumps it outside the cell, preventing it from entering the nucleus to bind to its primary target, DNA.[10] This mechanism of resistance belongs to pre‐target mechanism.
