Of the six genes in the prostate cancer pathway we found several genes that were both connected to cancer and neurodegeneration in general, including NFKBIA, RELA and PDGFRB. NF-κβ and RelA form a dimer with a transactivating domain that binds to specific DNA sequences as transcription factor controlling genes that are involved in immune and inflammatory responses and control of cell proliferation and apoptosis [249]. This evidence concerns the gene PDGFRB and Familial prostate cancer.
