The present study is the first of its kind to demonstrate the effect of crude extracts of two halophilic bacterial strains (Pseudomonas zhaodongensis strain BM20 and Bacillus stratosphericus strain SL22) on negative symptoms (anxiety and depression-like disorders), cognitive deficits (short-term memory impairment), and some oxidative parameters (SOD, GPx, and MDA) in methionine-induced mice models of schizophrenia. The gene discussed is SOD1; the disease is Anxiety.
