GSDME and neoplasm: Recent studies demonstrated that pyroptosis-based chemo- or phototherapy also provides effective strategy for inhibition of both primary and distant tumor growth, as evidenced by that activation of caspase-3 and upregulation of gasdermin E (a pyroptosis-inducing molecule) via photo- or chemotherapeutic-based nanoparticles trigger pyroptosis, consequently eliciting strong immune responses and tumor inhibition in breast tumor-bearing mice [99, 100].
