Severe anaemia (Hb < 5 g/dL) is associated with frequent infections, haemoglobinopathies, micronutrient deficiencies and inadequate feeding practices causing life-long health consequences including diffused cerebral hypoxia, tissue ischaemia, cognitive dysfunction, impaired cerebral vascular regulation, neurological injury and mortality [5–10]. The gene discussed is GSTM1; the disease is anemia.
