Other scientific societies propose different designations and diagnostic criteria for this clinical entity; this is the case of the Japan Diabetes Society, that considers “Slowly progressive insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (SPIDDM)”, whose diagnostic criteria are (1) the presence of GADA and/or ICA at some time during the disease course and (2) absence of ketosis at onset of DM and no need for insulin treatment to correct hyperglycaemia in the first 3 months after diagnosis [11].
