MMP2 and allergic asthma: A study by Corry and colleagues, using a similar murine model of OVA-induced allergic asthma in matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP-2) knockout mice demonstrated that while these animals presented a significantly reduced number of leukocytes in the BAL, they showed increased accumulation of inflammatory cells into the lung parenchyma, indicating that MMP-2 plays a role in the removal of leukocytes from the airways of allergic mice [29].
