Thus, abnormal mechanosensing could contribute to aortic aneurysms by (1) hampering adequate ECM remodeling in response to hemodynamic loads, and (2) stimulation of local AT1R and TGF-β signaling pathways, via mechanisms that involve mechanical stress and pathological upregulation of mechanosensing molecules (Fig. 3).
