Cardiomyocytes are known to develop NF-κβ-dependent inflammation and activation of the transcription of genes involved in producing pro-inflammatory cytokines, including IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-β, during sepsis, which leads to contractile dysfunction in the myocardium (Zhang 2007; Drosatos 2015; Martin, et al. 2016; Merx and Weber 2007; Sun 2015).
