Several crucial adhesion molecules have been identified in the past decades, including vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1), intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), and E-selectin; among which, VCAM-1 has been well recognized as playing a significant role in the initiation of atherosclerosis [4–6], where its induction further recruits blood monocyte adhesion to the endothelial cells via interaction with the integrin α4β1 and transmigration across the vascular endothelium [7]. Here, VCAM1 is linked to atherosclerosis.
