Although previous studies described a central role for NOX2 in the activation of platelets by collagen or collagen-related peptide,6,17,18 recent data suggest a limited role of this enzyme in the activation of platelets and the promotion of arterial thrombosis in vivo.19 In accordance with previous studies,7,12 we found NOX2 activity to be required for full platelet activation by thrombin but dispensable for collagen-induced responses.5 In parallel, we identified NOX1 to be essential for collagen signaling.5,7 Also for NOX1, there are discrepancies in literature. The gene discussed is NOX1; the disease is Arterial thrombosis.
