HLA-F and celiac disease: Due to the high complexity of the HLA locus, only recently, through a fine mapping analysis, it was discovered that other portions of HLA besides DQ2/DQ8 are important in celiac disease (28, 29): specifically, the small nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) rs2301226 located within the HLA class II locus and connected by expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) to the expression HLA-DPB1 and B3GALT4; the HLA class I alleles HLA-B0801 and HLA-B3906 as well as the SNPs that influence the expression of HLA-F have all been associated to celiac disease (28).
