A study analyzing the influence of caffeine on cholesterol-induced sporadic AD pathology, including levels of the neurotoxic Aβ protein, the phosphorylation of tau and the generation of oxidative stress, showed that a daily diet containing caffeine reversed the effects of the cholesterol-enriched diet and suggested caffeine to be protective against sporadic AD-like pathology [49]. The gene discussed is MAPT; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
