NLRP3 and sarcopenia: Its ability to make a metabolic switch in favor of glycolysis instead of fatty acid oxidation during aging [143,144], being one of the organs where the NLRP3 inflammasome is expressed less [145,146], or the presence of resident macrophages with tissue protective function [147] are some of the many possible adaptations of the heart that could explain its greater resistance to sarcopenia.
