Of note, Arabani et al. recently reported reductions of atherosclerosis in both Apoe−/− and Ldlr−/− mice by inactivation of the Hhipl1 gene, coding for hedgehog interacting protein-like 1 and a candidate gene for coronary artery disease, identified in human GWAS studies [65]. The gene discussed is APOE; the disease is atherosclerosis.
