In this study, to evaluate the potential of mirtazapine as a disease-modifying drug for PD, we explored whether mirtazapine exerted neuroprotective effects against dopaminergic neurotoxin 6-hydroxydopmine (6-OHDA)-induced neurodegeneration by targeting astrocytic 5-HT1A receptors using in vitro and in vivo models of PD. The gene discussed is HTR1A; the disease is Parkinson disease.
