IL4 and COVID-19: Because of their ability to trigger an immunosuppressive TH2 response, which balances and regulates the proinflammatory TH1 and TH17 responses through the release of regulatory and immunosuppressive cytokines (i.e. IL-4, IL-10, IL-13, IL-33, TGFβ) and Treg cells [6, 8, 43, 44, 63], individuals coinfected with STHs may experience milder COVID-19 symptoms and no cytokine storm [66] (Fig. 2B).
