A large fraction of the top pathways regardless of the miRNA direction were enriched for brain function and neurodegeneration, including “Downregulated in Alzheimer’s Disease” (p = 10−5), “regulation of synaptic transmission” (p = 0.028), and “APP catabolic processes” (p = 0.032) (Fig. 2e, Supplementary Fig. 1a–l). Here, APP is linked to early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
