Although BPI has been known to increase in Gram-negative and Gram-positive infections, such as sepsis or bacterial meningitis [25,26,36], and LBP is described as a marker in bacterial as well as a few cases of Candida sepsis [27,28,29,30], to date neither BPI nor LBP have been published as biomarkers in Aspergillus infections. The gene discussed is LBP; the disease is bacterial meningitis.
