One cathepsin protease family member found to be categorically important in modulating EMT is cathepsin L, through its ability to translocate to the nucleus in prostate, breast, lung cancer and glioma cells and cleave to Histone H3 and CUX1 proteins resulting in the onset of EMT [53,54,86] (reviewed in [46]).
