While it is well known that obesity is associated with the severity of COVID-19 [21], with a French study showing that 76% of patients admitted into the ICU for COVID-19 were at least overweight [22], we showed in our cohort that only BMI > 40 kg/m2 was associated with the risk of hospitalization after adjustment for age, sex, insulin treatment and type of diabetes. This evidence concerns the gene INS and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
