In order to investigate the effect of M1 and M2 macrophages on VEGF-A and VEGF-C expression in NSCLC, macrophages polarized toward M1 type (pro-inflammatory) or M2 type (anti-inflammatory) were co-cultured with A549 cells, a human NSCLC cell line. The gene discussed is VEGFC; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
