Since knockdown of AKT1 in both MCF-10A and BT-549 cells lead to the activation of transcription factor SNAIL, ABC transporter ABCG2, and acquisition of resistance towards cisplatin, we next examined whether down-regulation of SNAIL in AKT1-knockdown cells was associated with an expansion of the cancer stem cell population. The gene discussed is ABCG2; the disease is cancer.
