SARS-CoV, which caused outbreaks of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Guangdong Province in China in 2002, shares 79.5% genetic sequence similarity with SARS-CoV-2 as well as the same cell entry receptor [8], and the amino acid sequence identity between the SARS-CoV-2 and the SARS-CoV S-proteins is 76.47% [9]. The gene discussed is PROS1; the disease is severe acute respiratory syndrome.
