CD4 and infection: While semen was illustrated to contain components like mucin 6, that prevent transmission of HIV-1 to CD4+ T cells by blocking DC-SIGN-mediated transfer of HIV-1 from DCs to T cells (74, 75), mucosal LCs were found to efficiently attract LCs to the site of the infection (76, 77) and capture semen-opsonized HIV-1 via CR-mediated interactions (unpublished).
