This model demonstrated the influence of immune status at the time of TB diagnosis, showing that HIV-infected children and adolescents without immune suppression (CD4 percentage >30% in children <5 years of age or CD4 count >350 cells/mm3 in children >5 years of age) at TB diagnosis had a 58% lower odds of death (odds ratio [OR] 0.42 [95% CI 0.13–0.94]; p = 0.04) than children with advanced immune suppression. This evidence concerns the gene CD4 and tuberculosis.
