However, a number of reports were indicative for significantly higher p16 expression in HGSOC and undifferentiated ovarian carcinomas compared to low-grade and borderline serous carcinomas, suggesting that p16 overexpression may be implicated in the development of high-grade serous neoplasia within the ovary, possibly through inactivation of the retinoblastoma functional pathway [98, 99].
