A study into primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) cells, which are a unique subset of human B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma cells latently infected with Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV; another gammaherpesvirus), showed that FASN expression and induction of fatty acid synthesis was necessary for the survival of latently infected PEL cells (43). The gene discussed is FASN; the disease is B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
