Bricambert et al. [44] demonstrated that a histone demethylase, plant homeodomain finger 2 (Phf2) acts as a molecular checkpoint to prevent NAFLD progression by specifically erasing H3K9me2 (dimethylation on Lys 9 of H3) marks on the promoter of carbohydrate response element binding protein (ChREBP)-regulated genes during obesity. The gene discussed is MLXIPL; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
