The ability to generate tolerogenic DCs and skew T cell responses toward Treg using immobilized monosaccharide combinations such as Gal1, Gal1–Gal2, Man1–Gal2, Man2–Gal2, and Man1–Man2, therefore, provides exciting opportunities for using materials ‘decorated’ by a selection of monosaccharides for promoting immune regulation in the context of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases as well as implanted materials.
