AHR and cancer: Several other studies which have used a variety of cancer cell lines found that EMT could be triggered by exposure (sometimes even to low-doses) to various environmental chemicals such as benzo(a) pyrene (BaP), a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), an AhR agonist, produced by incomplete combustion of organic components (EDC) [102], nicotine [50, 103, 104], toxic metals such as cadmium and chromium [105, 106], pesticides [107] or other endocrine-disrupting chemicals [5].
