Tight junction components such as Zonula occlugens-1 (ZO-1) and Nectin were transcriptionally activated by OMD or PRELP overexpression, while they were suppressed in OMD or PRELP depletion, suggesting that OMD and PRELP have the ability to positively regulate tight junctions (Figure 2e). The gene discussed is NECTIN1; the disease is occult macular dystrophy.
