Anaerobes are inherently resistant as the drugs require oxygen for entry into the cell. Resistance mechanism involve alteration in the cell surface receptor to slow down or block the passage of the drugs, changes at the drug attachment sites (30S ribosome) and enzymatic degradation. Amikacin being unaffected by many of the hydrolyzing enzymes is more effective than other aminoglycosides in controlling infections caused by resistant bacteria. Here, CD177 is linked to infection.
