Previous studies confirmed that SARS-CoV-2 invades host cells through the ACE2 receptor (Rivellese and Prediletto, 2020), and ACE2 is expressed not only in the lung but also in the gastrointestinal tract, kidney, heart, blood vessels and other organs and tissues, causing SARS-CoV-2 to damage not only the lung but also the heart and kidneys, as well as physiological systems such as the immune system and blood system, causing death in patients due to multiple organ failure and acute respiratory distress syndrome (Bourgonje et al., 2020). This evidence concerns the gene ACE2 and acute respiratory distress syndrome.
