Since EGFR ligands (such as EGF) and other growth factors have been shown to mediate epithelial cell repair of bronchial cells (Barrow et al., 1993; Burgel and Nadel, 2004), breast cancer (Fitzpatrick et al., 1984; Kim et al., 2012), and PCa cells (Peehl et al., 1996; Festuccia et al., 2005), we hypothesized that EGF might have a role in prostate epithelial cell growth in culture as well. The gene discussed is EGF; the disease is breast carcinoma.
