The OMM-localized 18 kDa translocator protein (TSPO) is demonstrated to inhibit mitochondrial Ca2+ uptake by promoting VDAC1 phosphorylation (Gatliff et al., 2017), while VDAC1 ablation in human glioblastoma U87 cells leads to reduced levels of TSPO (Shoshan-Barmatz et al., 2019). This evidence concerns the gene TSPO and glioblastoma.
