The activation of NLRP3 as the pivotal component of the innate immune system, plays a critical role in the host defense against bacteria, fungi and viruses among others; however, the NLRP3 is also associated with metabolic and inflammatory conditions such as gout, diabetes mellitus, insulin resistance, and obesity (25–28). This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
