Huang et al. (2015) used a transient model of middle cerebral artery occlusion in mice to investigate the angiogenic response after ischemia, also including an immunofluorescence-based detection of fibronectin to count the number of positive vessels. They were found to be increased over time in the ischemic border zone (penumbra). The angiogenic response to ischemia was further investigated by Li et al. (2012) using a transient model of middle cerebral artery occlusion in mice, which led to significantly augmented fibronectin-positive vessels in the ischemic border zone.
